Lagos state police command says BRT driver implicated over death of abducted passenger, Oluwabamise Ayanwole is now in their custody.
The lady had boarded a BRT bus from Lekki to Oshodi on February 26, and ever since,she has been missing.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement on Monday, Afternoon said, the lady has been found dead.
“The corpse was found lying on the Carter Bridge by Ogogoro Community, Lagos Lagos Island. The corpse has been deposited at the morgue of the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, for autopsy.
The bereaved family has been contacted and family members have identified the corpse as that of Oluwabamise Ayanwole, the lady earlier declared missing.”
Officers from Ebute Ero Police Station were said to have recovered the lady’s body after being alerted by residents in the Lagos-Island axis that a corpse had been abandoned in the area.
According to reports, the victim, who worked as a Fashion Designer in Chevron Estate, Ajah and spent weekends with her sister in Ota, Ogun State, sensed danger when the bus failed to pick up any other passengers at subsequent bus stops and engaged a friend via voice notes on her phone.
According to the voice notes, the bus driver expressed interest in Oluwabamise and requested her name and other information.
She was said to have asked a friend to pray for her after becoming suspicious of the bus driver, and the friend responded by telling her to get off at Oworonsoki bus stop, which is before Oshodi bus stop.
The victim also sent a video to a friend showing how dark the bus was and said, “There are three men and one woman on the bus.” The woman is sitting at the back. That’s the number of the bus number in case. Please pray for me.”
According to her mother, that was the last time Oluwabamise was heard from.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, promising that despite Oluwabamise’s death, the detectives working on the case would not rest until her killers were apprehended.
