Special forces in Guinea have taken over political power from the current President, Alpha Conde.
He is said to be serving a third term in office and has been president since 2010. Alpha Conde is accused of manipulating the constitution for his third term agenda and imprisoning young agitators in the country.
In a video released by the soldiers they decided that “having taken the president, to dissolve the constitution.”
Meanwhile, the United States of America and Federal government of Nigeria have condemned the military seizure of power in the Republic on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Esther Sunsuwa, made the position of the government known in a statement that “Nigerian government strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government and therefore calls on those behind the coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property.”
Calling for the release of the President, in a tweet, United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, called for “the immediate release of President Alpha Condé.”
