“President Buhari’s decision to suspend the removal of fuel subsidy is a short-sighted move. While it may provide immediate relief by preventing a sudden increase in fuel prices, it fails to address the underlying issues and promotes a dependency on subsidies. One hallmark of leadership is the ability to make tough decisions and implement systems to manage the consequences effectively”

“I believe that removing fuel subsidy can be a crucial step towards market efficiency and fiscal sustainability. It can encourage the development of alternative energy sources, promote conservation practices, and reduce the strain on government finances. These long-term benefits should be considered, even though they may not be immediately apparent,” Chukwuma said.

The author added that another issue the President left for the one coming to office is the issue of debt, according to him, Nigeria is dealing with a huge debt from different countries and President Buhari has failed to deal with it before leaving office.

He added yat he saw somewhere that President Buhari is even processing $800m loan at the moment, he argued that he understands that money is borrowed for the development of the country but he believes that they should be better debt management which Nigeria lacks and borrowing more only add to the problem.

Chukwuma concluded that it is already clear that President Buhari has already left many issues for the upcoming president to deal with.

“There are already enough holes for the next administration to address, and President Buhari’s actions seem to be enlarging these holes rather than addressing them,” he said.
