Just when Manchester United fans thought their club would end another weekend without a win, the Red Devils stepped up to wrest a win that might have saved Erik ten Hag’s job.
Manchester United went into the game with two successive defeats within the last seven days as they continue to drop in the Premier League standings.
They lost the Manchester derby to their local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford last week in a 3-0 trashing. Their Carabao Cup visit to Newcastle’s St James’ Park on Wednesday also ended in another 3-0 defeat.

This meant that the Red Devils had conceded 6 goals in seven days. It also meant that their visit to Fulham’s Craven Cottage was a win or burst for Erik ten Hag, who found himself without club talisman Marcus Rashford at the last minute.
The match started with a goalless first half as both teams failed to muster enough creativity to find the target. The regular 90 minutes also ended goalless, even though Manchester United had 12 shots with five on target and Fulham recorded 18 shots with two on target.
The match-winner eventually came in the first minute of additional time when João Palhinha gave the ball away in a dangerous position. Fernandes was there to pick it up, and after a bit of scuffling around, the Portuguese midfielder slotted the match-winner into the bottom corner.
The 1-0 win pushed Manchester United to the 6th spot on the league table with 18 points in 11 games, pending the outcome of other Matchday 11 fixtures.
