Manchester United seems to be running out of defenders as Lisandro Martinez will also be sidelined due to a foot injury.
The 25-year-old Argentinean international missed the last month of the previous season after breaking a metatarsal in April 2023.
However, after just a month of returning to competitive football at the start of this season, Manchester United said “an aggravation” of his previous injury will prevent him from playing once again.

Martinez played against Wolves, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest before taking part in a 3-1 loss against Arsenal on September 3. He was also in the game when Manchester United lost to Brighton and Bayern Munich, but was not available for United’s wins over Burnley and Crystal Palace.
According to a statement from the club, Martinez “fell victim to the setback in our Premier League match against Arsenal earlier this month. It has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation. Assessment is ongoing to determine next steps.”
During United’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Manchester United Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Saturday, coach Erik ten Hag said: “It is very sad, for him and the team, because he was not 100% fit. I think it was a big difference, the Licha Martinez in the last games and the Licha Martinez we have seen in the last season.”

Lisandro Martinez moved from Ajax to United in a deal worth up to £57 million in the summer of 2022, and he helped the Red Devils finish third in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup last season.
Since he arrived at Old Trafford, the Butcher of Amsterdam has played 51 games in all competitions for United in which he provided one assist and scored one goal.
