Many Nigerians often mistake the country’s phone code for a postal code, but Nigeria actually uses six-digit postal codes, for example, 100271 for Ikeja.
A postal code is a series of numbers used to sort mail and identify a geographic area. In Nigeria, the official postal codes are managed by the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), and each area within a city is assigned a unique 6-digit code to facilitate more efficient mail delivery.
The correct term is postal code, not zip code. Zip code is used only in the United States, while “postal code” is the international term used by countries like Nigeria. However, many online forms (especially foreign ones) use Zip code as a general label; in that case, you can simply enter Nigeria’s postal code.
The general postcode for Ikeja is 100271, but individual districts have their own postal codes. Here are some of the main postal codes in Ikeja:
