Social media users on Facebook and photo-and video sharing platform Instagram will now pay $11.99 monthly for blue tick verification.
The subscription service will give users direct access to customer support and security for their account across the Meta-owned platforms.
Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive officer of Facebook and its parent company, Meta, made this announcement in a Facebook post on Sunday, February 19.
Mark said the service subscribers will get “extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you.”
“Good morning and new product announcement: this week, we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified — a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support.
“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services. Meta Verified starts at $11.99 / month on web or $14.99 / month on iOS. We’ll be rolling out in Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon,” the post read.
The decision to make blue tick verification a subscription-based service was taken months after Twitter CEO, Elon Musk announced similar decision upon taking over of the micro-blogging app.
