The army officers who are now in charge spoke on TV to explain why they did this. 

They said the country was facing a lot of problems, like how they ran the recent election and how the leaders were making decisions. 

These issues were causing trouble, and the army officers thought they needed to step in to help.

They will surely do things differently 

The army officers who are now leading the country have plans to do things differently. 

They stopped the results of the recent election and closed the borders for now and said they’re doing all of this to make the country better.

Army General makes himself new leader of Niger after coup

In another news, Niger elected President, Mohamed Bazoum, was detained in a coup led by the Presidential Guard on Wednesday and on Friday Niger’s putschists named an army general as the new leader. 

The former colonial ruler, France, expressed its disapproval of the coup, urging the plotters to respect the democratically-elected president and leave him in office.

General Abdourahamane Tchiani, head of the Presidential Guard since 2011, emerged as the leader of the coup and declared himself the “president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland.”
