Conjoined twins born at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) have tragically passed away, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). LASUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, confirmed the sad news in an interview on Monday in Lagos.
The hospital initially celebrated the twins’ delivery, which occurred on October 5 at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, LASUTH. They were estimated to be at a gestational age of 33 weeks and six days.
Prof. Fabamwo explained that the twins’ complex conjoined condition required a certain age before separation, and their health issues were severe.

The first twin succumbed to congenital heart issues on October 15, prompting immediate efforts to separate them with a team of specialists from LASUTH and other hospitals. Tragically, the second twin also passed away on October 16.
Despite this heartbreaking outcome, the mother of the twins is reported to be in good health. It’s worth noting that the successful delivery of conjoined twins is a rare event at LASUTH, marking a significant medical challenge for the institution.
