A Facebook user Treasure Uduak has explained why Yemi Alade and Niniola have no claim to Grammy, the most prestigious award in music.
This explanation came after the Facebook user saw many people contesting the fact that Temilade Openiyi known as Tems may not be the first female Nigerian to win the Grammy award.
Uduak said that neither Niniola nor Yemi Alade has a plaque to show for their contributions to any Grammy winning body of work.
“For people reacting to Tems being the first Nigerian female to win a Grammy. Yemi Alade and Niniola do not own a Grammy plaque,” she said and added, “Their contributions did not reach the percentage needed to get a plaque. So at best, both got certificate of participation.”
The Facebook user also noted that the British Nigerian singer Sade Adu can not also be categorized as a Nigerian artiste.
“Sade Adu does not identify as a Nigerian, she is British and we can’t claim the award.“
Tems won her first Grammy award on Sunday for her contribution on “Wait for U”, a song by the American rapper Future which also featured Drake.
