The Kano State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal has announced that it will deliver its judgment on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, regarding the suit filed against Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, assured that the judgment will be delivered earlier than the legally mandated 180-day timeframe. 

This announcement came after the conclusion of final addresses presented by both the APC and the defendants – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the NNPP, and Governor Yusuf.

APC says Nasir Gawuna is the rightful winner

In their final address, the APC urged the tribunal to uphold their petition and declare Nasir Gawuna as the rightful winner of the election. 

On the other hand, INEC, NNPP, and Governor Yusuf urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition.

This eagerly anticipated judgment is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of Kano State. The tribunal’s decision will determine whether Governor Abba Yusuf will retain his position or if there will be a possible shift in leadership.

As citizens await the tribunal’s verdict, political tensions continue to rise, and stakeholders across party lines eagerly anticipate the outcome of this closely watched case. The judgment will undoubtedly shape the political trajectory of Kano State for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, the Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has nullified the victory of Labour Party (LP) Lawmaker, Thaddeus Attah, as the Representative of the Eti Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

The court order, issued on Monday, September 11, mandates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election in the 32 polling units of Eti-Osa within 90 days.

In response to this ruling, Nigerian singer turned politician, Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, who contested the election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed optimism by posting on his social media account, “It is possible. Still.”
