Justice has been finally served in the case of a 24-year-old University of Ilorin student, Olajide Blessing Omowumi, after the court sentenced his killers to death by hanging.
The convicts namely Abdulazeez Ismail, Ajala Oluwatimileyin and Oyeyemi Omogbolahan were brought to the court in June 2022 after Blessing, a University of Ilorin Agricultural Sciences student, was found dead in her sister’s home with her mouth gagged.
Investigation by the police revealed that the vicim was raped and strangled to death by the suspects.
Delivering his judgment on Tuesday, December 13, the presiding judge, Justice Ibrahim Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, said the court found the three suspect of homicide, though their intention was to rape and rob.
He gave a verdict that the three should be killed by hanging. The judge also sentenced the fourth and fifth suspects to three years in imprisonment for the offence of theft.
Ikejabird recalls that the court had earlier discharged and acquitted sixth, seventh and eightth suspects on the basis that they were not found guilty of any charges against them.
