Following the call of Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation directed at the Supreme Court to halt judgment on the old currency, social media has reacted in diverse forms.
Some users indicated it was a good decision from the AGF, insisting that such a judgment does not serve the interest of the nation.
Speaking on the objection raised by the AGF, Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer from Akwa Ibom , stated that it was a fitting call to make at this time.
“I agree with the objection filed by the A.G.F, Malami SAN, challenging the competence of the suit filed by Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara States on the new Naira notes. The Supreme Court’s original jurisdiction under Section 232 of the Constitution shouldn’t be invoked in this case,” he said.
“We shouldn’t bastardize the legal system due to political expediency. For the Supreme Court to have original jurisdiction, there must be a dispute between the three States and the Federation; not a dispute between the States and the Federal Government,” he added.
More Reactions Over the Supreme Court Judgement on the Old Naira Note
Deji Adeyanju said: “No matter how painful a Supreme Court judgement or ruling may be, it must still be obeyed but I stand with Malami on the issues raised for the substantive matter coming up on the 15th Feb.“
Galileo AF: “Thank you Malami. Can’t believe I am praising this FAILED AG. The next step is for Godwin Emefiele to DEFY the SUPREME COURT on the deadline day. The old notes can no longer be legal tender. Let El Rufai and his court jesters including Wike go use the old notes somewhere else.”
Winnie Chess: “Nigerians should be a little patient. Things will normalize with the currency. The long term benefit outweighs the short term benefit. This is my position. The currency is circulating and I believe within the next few days to weeks it would have circulated properly.“
Caleb Kenny: ” You’re just correct.
The external pressure on president and central bank’s governor made people suffer than expected. The 10 days added was the disaster. Everyone would have adjusted by now, if not for bowing down yo pressure.“
