JUST IN: Supreme Court Adjoins Naira Swap Case till Feb 22

Following a court hearing today at the Supreme court of Nigeria in Abuja, Justice John Okoro has adjourned the case over naira swap and redesign policy till February 22.

The suit was submitted by 10 states who are seeking to challenge the Central Bank of Nigeria policy on the ban of some old naira notes.

It was a well packed hearing at the Supreme court and notable names such as Yahaya Bello and Nasir El-Rufai were in attendance alongside many Senior advocates of Nigeria.

Previously the Court had temporarily prohibited the implementation of the February 10 deadline by the CBN.

The Apex bank had stated that the old naira notes which are N200, N500 and N1000 will cease to be legal tender after the deadline.

The ten states that are seeking to reverse that deadline at the Apex court are Zamfara, Kogi, Kaduna, Ondo, Niger, Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa.

Justice John Okoro led the proceeding alongside 6 other judges who are also part of the panel.

Ikeja Bird gathered that Lagos and Bayelsa are the newest states to join the suits indicating that other states may also eventually take part.
