Brazilian defender Dani Alves has been held in custody without bail following a Spanish court order on Friday.
Dani Alves was arrested over an allegation of sexual assault. The accuser, whose name has not been made public, is a lady who said the incident happened at a nightclub on December 31, 2022.
According to SuperSport, a sexual assault charge in Spain may revolve around unsolicited and unwanted sexual groping.
Alves confirmed to Antena 3, a Spanish television station, that he was at a nightclub at the time but indicated that he did not engage in anything wrong.
“I was there, at that place, with more people having fun. Everybody knows I love to dance. Having a good time but without invading the space of others,” the former Barcelona defender said.
Alves’ wife Joana Sanz also confirmed that he was out to dinner with friends that night.
“He went out to dance and try to enjoy music as he likes, period. Nothing wrong happened…I know how respectful he is,” she said.
