Controversy ignited as popular writer Joe Igbokwe criticized Lloyd Ekweremadu’s elaborate wedding despite his parents being in prison.

Lloyd, the son of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, recently exchanged vows with Tiffany in Abuja, and their wedding was honored by the presence of politicians and former Senate Presidents.

Although, his parents, Ike, and his wife, Beatrice are currently locked up in UK prison for organ trafficking.

Joe, just like many others, shared his disappointment with Lloyd for not considering his parents’ situation and going ahead with the wedding.

The chieftan of APC wrote, “If I were to be Ekweremmadu’s son I would not have staged this elaborate wedding ceremony with my father and mother in prison. I would have done a low key marriage ceremony and wait till my parents are free. This generation scares me stiff.”

Reactions: Their parents may have sanctioned it

Despite Joe’s backlash, some argued that Lloyd’s parents may have actually approved of the wedding. Here are some comments:

@ChigozieNdulue: Joe Igbokwe Sir, it would be selfish of you as a Father not to encourage your child to go on with his wedding in your absence e.g long jail term.No matter how much your child does not want the the wedding to hold, you should encourage him to move on. That’s a real father there. Your sons life shouldn’t be put on hold because a father is serving jail term.

@ElsieWilliams: It’s possible the parents insisted on the marriage holding without them being physically present.

@ChijiokePrecious: This was my initial sentiment, until I warned myself that Senator Ekweremadu could have arranged the wedding from the UK with the intentions that something good happens in a distressed family and of bringing his political associates together. I doubt if his largely unknown son alone could have gathered these men together at his wedding. If Ekweremadu didn’t invite them himself it’s possible many would have reasoned it was a slap on the groom’s father’s face and kept off.

@DejiJohnHomolewoh: I believe their parents may have sanctioned it….it can’t be done without their blessing. Though It could have been better if they have tarried a while.
