Peter Obi has voiced his support for Bill Gates’ recent remarks regarding the increasing number of young Nigerian professionals leaving the country in search of better opportunities.
During an interactive session in Lagos State titled ‘Advancing Africa: Unleashing the Power of Youth in Science and Innovation,’ the Microsoft co-founder discussed the “Japa” phenomenon.
Bill Gates expressed the opinion that if accompanied by increased training efforts, the departure of individuals can have positive implications.

He emphasized the benefits of having a large workforce that includes professionals returning to contribute to business and government in Nigeria.

In response to Gates’ comments, Peter Obi agreed with the philanthropist’s view on “Japa”.
He acknowledged and endorsed Gates’ viewpoint on the “Japa” syndrome, recognizing the potential benefits for Nigeria when professionals seek opportunities abroad, while also emphasizing the need to address the root causes and create an environment that encourages professionals to stay and contribute to the country’s development.

Peter Obi describes late president Umaru Yar’Adua
In another news, The Labour party presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has paid tribute to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.
He described him as a “true democrat” and a “detribalised leader” who was committed to repositioning Nigeria through unity, peace, and progress.
Obi, in a statement released on Thursday, said that Yar’Adua’s leadership style was characterized by true governance, transparency, and accountability.
