Every Nigerian dream is to live abroad, the earthly paradise where things work best.
More people are leaving Nigeria for countless reasons ranging from inadequate infrastructure, economic issues, high cost of living and unemployment Europe and the United States of America have become an escape route for Nigerians who want a better job, better pay and also a good standard of living.
But, with the post COVID-19 era & Russia-Ukraine war many countries have plunged into massive economic recessions and inflation. Some countries in Europe are a shadow of themselves. The United States of America is still the top choice for Nigerians.
What are likely difficulties Nigerians would face migrating to Europe, America and even the Asia continent
1. Hike in fuel prices
European, American and Asian communities have experienced high cost in fuel prices and this has adversely affected their citizens. Prices of gas has gone up by 100% between October 2021 till present. Nigerians are expected to face this harsh but familiar gas price challenges when they eventually land in their respective JAPA destinations. It will reflect in their day-to-day activities such as increase in bus, taxi among other transit fares.
2. High food prices
In Europe, some droughts and a raging war in this region has soared food prices. Many states are preparing citizens for periods of famine. Paris residents are protesting, Americans are blaming the government for skyrocketing prices. Nigerians moving into these regions should be prepared to pay more for their rations.
3. Insecurity & Fear of war
The world population is panicked at the nuclear threats flying between super powers. This tension is higher in JAPA regions than ever considering its proximity to the Russia-Ukraine war and the direct involvement of the American administration in it.
The Russian president announced it was likely to use any means to defend itself. The United States government announced a retaliatory response to such nuclear use. We all know, nuclear war has no winner. People moving to these regions are more likely to face panic and fear.
4. The coldest winter
The American and Europe continents are headed towards winter. People living in these regions need heat. With low gas levels and high prices; people in this area will likely face the harshest winter ever.
President Putin shutting the Nord Stream pipeline will considerably affect the supply of natural gas into European countries and this will affect the newly migrated Nigerians as well.
Nigerians should get thicker clothing and prepare for an extremely cold season.
5. High cost of living
Possibility of working just to pay bills is at the highest point with the inflation and recession. Many Nigerians are more likely to start paying higher bills on accommodation, water and as well as taxes.
This could aggressively affect savings and would lead to working only for sustainability with little or nothing to save afterwards.
All these are expected stumbling blocks for Nigerians in their new environment. They must be prepared as they pack their bags to jet out of motherland.
