According to the Nigerian Police Force’s Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a person cannot be detained for tinting their hair because it is not a crime in the country.
He confirmed this in response to a Twitter user who shared how a police officer slapped him because of his tinted hair. The tweep wrote “a policeman slapped me because I tinted my hair and I explain to him I’m Barber. I never knew tinting hair is now a crime, Nigeria will not end me.”
Adejobi stated, “it’s not a crime to tint your hair. It only looks strange to our culture, but not a crime at all.” He then advised the man to take up the matter against the police officer who slapped him.

This reply shocked many as they slammed him for making such a statement. He was accused of justifying the actions of police in the name of it being ‘strange to the culture’.
Kolawole replied, “your 2nd line is quite puzzling. A policeman has no right to bother me even if I’m doing something “strange to our culture”. In what part of the world is a tinted hair a sign of criminality? I can’t even begin to imagine the kind of orientation Nigerian policemen are receiving.”
