Mainz winger Anwar El Ghazi has been suspended by his Bundesliga club for a social media post he made about the Israel-Gaza conflict, which has since been deleted.
Earlier, there were rumours of him joining Manchester United during the summer transfer window when they faced a shortage of wingers. He eventually signed a two-year contract with Mainz until 2025.
However, the club has suspended him from training and games due to his controversial post on social media. This is a rare incident in which players face consequences for their online content.

Mainz 05 stated that they respect diverse viewpoints on the long-standing Middle East conflict but distance themselves from El Ghazi’s post, which doesn’t align with the club’s values.
In a similar situation, Bayern Munich is investigating one of their players, Noussair Mazraoui, for sharing a pro-Palestinian video on his Instagram.
They have contacted him, and a detailed discussion with the club’s management is planned upon his return from national team duties.
