In recent appointments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, there has been a notable presence of Christians in key positions. 

However, it is important to consider the qualifications and experience of these individuals, many of whom have previously worked with Tinubu during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State.

Inspector General of Police: Kayode Egbetokun 

Kayode Egbetokun is a Nigerian police officer who currently serves as the Inspector General of Police, the 22nd person to hold this position, was born on September 4, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State to a Christian home. On June 19, 2023, President Tinubu appointed Egbetokun as the Inspector General of Police, replacing Usman Alkali Baba. Prior to this appointment, he served as a deputy inspector-general of police and supervised the South-West geo-political zone as the supervising DIG. He was also in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja since April 6, 2023.

Central Bank of Nigeria  Governor: Yemi Cardoso 

Yemi Cardoso who is also a Christian, is a Nigerian banker and public policy maker. He currently serves as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Before this role, he was the chairman of Citibank Nigeria and also served as the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget.

Yemi Cardoso was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria by Bola Tinubu on September 15, 2023. His appointment is for a term of five years, pending confirmation by the Nigerian Senate. On September 23, 2023, Cardoso was officially confirmed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Federal Inland Revenue Service Chairman: Mr Zacch Adedeji 

Mr. Zacch Adedeji, a highly respected executive, was recently appointed by the President as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and he is also a Christian. In this role, he will provide strategic leadership, promote excellence, collaborate on fiscal policies, and improve revenue collection. 

Minister of Finance: Wale Edun 

Wale Edun, also known as Chief Adebayo Olawale Edun, is a Nigerian economist, investment banker, and politician. He currently serves as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, a position he assumed in August 2023. He was appointed to this role by President Bola Tinubu on August 16, 2023. 

CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC): Dr Vincent Olatunji

On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, Dr. Vincent Olatunji was reappointed as the Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has been in this position since February 2022. The announcement of his reappointment, along with other appointments in the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, was made through a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President for Media and Publicity.

DG, National Identity Management Commission (NIMC): Engr. Abisoye Coker 

The former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission, Engr. Aliyu A. Aziz, retired from his position on August 24, 2023, and passed on the leadership responsibilities to Coker-Odusote, who was chosen to take over after Engr. Aziz’s tenure. This announcement was made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chairman, Tax Reform Committee: Mr Taiwo Oyedele 

OnJuly 14th, President Bola Tinubu gave his approval for the creation of a committee that will focus on improving fiscal policies and tax reforms. He appointed Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who is a partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers and an expert in fiscal policies and taxes in Africa, as the chairman of the committee. 

This decision was made shortly after the President signed four Executive Orders, which included the suspension of a five percent tax on telecommunication services and the increase in taxes on locally-made vehicles.

Special Adviser, Economic Affairs: Tope Fasua

President Bola Tinubu choose Tope Fasua, the CEO of Global Analytics Consulting, to be the Special Adviser on Economic Affairs in the Vice President’s office. Fasua shared the news of his appointment on his verified social media account, not to be surprised he is a Christian. 

CEO, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST): Tola Odeyemi 

Tola Odeyemi started working as the new postmaster general of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on the 16th of October. President Bola Tinubu appointed Odeyemi as the CEO of NIPOST on the 11th of October, which made the agency’s workers upset.

EFCC Chairman: Ola Olukoyede 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave his approval for Mr. Ola Olukoyede to become the new Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Olukoyede will be taking over from Mr. Abdulkarim Chukkol, who has been serving as the Acting Chairman of the EFCC. Before this appointment, Olukoyede had worked as the Chief of Staff to the former Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, and as the Secretary to the Commission.
