Women in Ikeja gathered on Ilo Street to mark International Women’s Day 2026 with a community outreach focused on empowerment, skill-building, and self-confidence.

The event, organised by Ikeja Bird Media in collaboration with Rubellite Cosmetics, was held under the theme “Give to Gain,” reflecting a shared commitment to equipping women with practical knowledge and opportunities for personal and economic growth.

The outreach brought together market traders, small business owners, and other women from the community in an interactive session that combined beauty education with broader messages of self-worth and empowerment.

A professional makeup artist representing Rubellite Cosmetics led a hands-on demonstration, simplifying beauty techniques and making them accessible to participants. The session covered essential topics such as skin preparation, achieving a soft glam look for everyday wear, and creating full glam styles for special occasions. Attendees were also guided on how to select and use basic makeup products effectively.

Beyond technical instruction, the session emphasized that makeup serves as a tool for self-expression rather than transformation. Participants were encouraged to view beauty as a means of enhancing confidence and embracing their individuality.

For many in attendance, the training challenged long-held perceptions that makeup is a luxury. Instead, it was presented as an affordable tool that can boost confidence and even provide income-generating opportunities.

A key highlight of the event was a symbolic makeover session for the Iyalode of Ikeja, Iyalode Ilo a respected leader and advocate for women in the community. The moment drew enthusiastic reactions from attendees and underscored the event’s central message of empowerment and visibility.

The atmosphere throughout the outreach remained lively and participatory, with women engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and asking questions. To further encourage involvement, attendees who answered questions correctly received beauty gift packages from Rubellite Cosmetics.

The initiative extended beyond beauty, focusing on confidence-building, economic empowerment, and self-expression emphasizing that equipping women with knowledge and skills has a ripple effect, strengthening families, communities, and society at large.

As the event concluded, Ikeja Bird Media reaffirmed its commitment to creating platforms that support women’s development adding that it is part of a broader effort to invest in the future by empowering women to learn, grow, and thrive.
