Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has revealed that it has discovered N258 million of the new naira notes hidden at Sterling Bank vault in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement that was made public on Tuesday, ICPC disclosed that both regional and service managers of the banks have been arrested.
The commission said it will continue to ensure that commercial banks comply with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
It also revealed that the Sterling Bank’s regional and service managers who were arrested have been released on bail but investigation will still continue.
Reactions to ICPC’s Discovery
Muyiwa Odeluyi said: “What have we done to all these commercial banks to warrant them treating the general publiç in this manner? They are making Nigeria unbearable for citizens…. Ikorodu needs visit.“
Dahud Alimi reacted: “Why not revoke their operating license since they have remained an open enemy of an ordinary Nigerian and economy saboteurs?“
Mohammad Oseni said: “Why bail them quickly? Nigerian and her so-called rule of law.”
Babayo Rufai: “This is very sad indeed. What are they going to do by hoarding the new redesign Naira notes? I started using ATM cards and cashless banking in 1982 and it was a very good and secure experience.”
