Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress has strongly denied the claim that he asked some governors to counter President Buhari on naira swap policy.
Tinubu stated that he has always pleaded for calm but has never in any way urged others or even the governors to disagree with the president.
Recall that some Governors specifically Nasiru El Rufai of Kaduna State and Umaru Ganduje of Kano State have disagreed with the federal government on old naira note policy.
The governor of Kaduna State addressed his state residents, urging them to continue to use the old naira note.
Ganduje also made an address that anyone who refuses to accept the old naira notes which the federal government said is no longer a legal tender will face the wrath of the state government.
President Buhari stated a few days ago that the old 500 and 1000 naira notes stopped being legal tenders after February 10 deadline.
Full Statement of Tinubu’s Team on Some Governor’s Actions
“Asiwaju Tinubu has been known, since the currency swap crisis started, to call for calm as the authorities try to find out a solution to the currency crisis. He has offered a six-point suggestion to lessen the anguish our people are facing in trying to get money from the banks”, a part of the statement said.
“He has also held several meetings with President Buhari, his leader over the matter.
“It is thus inconceivable and unthinkable that he would instruct APC governors to disregard President Muhammadu Buhari’s order on the currency matter.
“Asiwaju has had no influence in this decision. Journalists, unless acting on the dictates of political opponents or prosecuting some agenda, should endeavour to confirm authorship of their materials from the Media and Publicity Directorate of the campaign. They can also seek confirmation from the Tinubu Media Office or Mr Alake”, the statement ended.
