The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal gun possession.
The Federal High Court in Lagos State granted him bail in the sum of N20 million with one surety in like sum.
Emefiele is facing two counts of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license.

He was allegedly in violation of the Firearms Act
In the second count, the service accused him of possessing 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a license.
These charges are in violation of the Firearms Act, and the case is being pursued under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.
The alleged offenses took place on June 15, 2023, at a residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos and the Department of State Services (DSS) filed the charges against Emefiele on July 13, 2023.

Former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele charged to court by DSS following court order
The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been charged to court in compliance with an order issued by the Abuja High Court.
The DSS spokesperson, Dr. Peter Afunanya, announced the development, stating that the charges were based on suspected fresh criminal infractions/information.
DSS had previously applied for a court order to detain Mr. Emefiele in 2022, but he obtained a restraining order from the FCT High Court, which prevented his arrest.
