How to upgrade your prepaid meter

  1. Link Your NIN to Your Meter

The first step is to link your National Identification Number (NIN) to your prepaid meter number. This can be done online at Ikeja Electric’s website:

1. Go to www.smartkyc.ikejaelectric.com/nin

2. Enter your meter number and NIN

3. Click on “Link NIN”

Once your NIN is successfully linked, you will receive three sets of 20-digit tokens the first time you recharge your meter.

  1. Recharge Your Meter

If you did not receive the tokens after linking your NIN, you will need to first recharge your meter. Visit any Ikeja Electric vendor or recharge outlet and add credit to your meter.

After recharging, use this link to generate the 20-digit Key Change Token (KCT) codes.

  1. Upgrade Your Meter

With the KCT codes in hand, you can now upgrade your meter:

1. Input the first 20-digit KCT code into your meter. This will wipe off the old meter settings.

2. Enter the second 20-digit KCT code. This will upgrade your meter to the new STS platform.

3. Input the third and final 20-digit code. This will load the purchased energy value into the upgraded meter.

Your prepaid meter is now successfully upgraded to the new STS platform.

How to upgrade from your mobile phone

Ikeja Electric customers can also upgrade their meters directly from their mobile phones:

1. Dial *7024#

2. Select option 2 for Token Retrieval

3. Input your meter number to retrieve your KCT codes

This option is currently available on MTN, 9mobile and GLO networks.

Recharge as Usual

Once the meter is upgraded, you can recharge as usual by purchasing recharge cards and inputting the codes into your meter. Normal vending continues just like before.

The meter upgrade process is a one-time procedure. After upgrading once with the KCT codes, you will not need to repeat the process again.

Visit Ikeja Electric Office

If you face any issues generating the KCT tokens online, visit your nearest Ikeja Electric office for assistance with the upgrade process.

In summary, upgrading your Ikeja Electric prepaid meter is a simple process that involves linking your NIN, recharging your meter, inputting the KCT codes and finally recharging as normal. With this straightforward guide, you can easily upgrade from the comfort of your home.
