In 2021, Florence Ajayi discovered a lump under her armpit. As time passed, the lump grew into the size of a ping pong, hindering her from keeping her right arm by the side. On visiting a hospital, the fluid in the lump was only extracted, causing the lump to regrow.
Months later, the lump grew massively. Ajayi started visiting the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she received quality treatment and care. The tumour shrunk, and she began chemotherapy months later.
Initially, the doctors mentioned she would have eight rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a mastectomy. Before her family could raise over ₦200,000 for the surgery due to the cost of prior treatments, the cancer reoccurred and the tumour regrew. As a result, she had to take three more rounds of chemotherapy.
In April, she had her surgery, a unilateral mastectomy. After that, the doctor said she must undergo a radiotherapy treatment. The treatment will cost ₦2.6 million, but the family can’t raise it independently.
