Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, expressed his view on the ongoing demolitions of properties belonging to innocent Nigerian citizens.
In his tweet, Obi acknowledged that while some demolitions may be justified, there should always be room for compassion for the fellow citizens
He urged the government authorities to find a balance between enforcing compliance with regulations and considering the circumstances of the individuals affected.

He added reasons for his claim
Obi highlighted the paradox of a significant housing deficit in Nigeria, leading some people to help themselves by constructing structures for their homes, businesses, and offices.
He pointed out that some of these structures were either unapproved or built with the knowledge or approval of local authorities. He emphasised that the demolitions have negatively impacted many ordinary people who innocently erred or were misinformed.
Reactions: The Man for the People
Nigerians are happy with what he said and are reacting to his tweet: Here are some of them
@Spotlight_Abby:It’s refreshing to see a leader who thinks for the people, not those who find it OK for Nigerians to suffer. I still can’t get over this interview.
@Shing h:@PeterObi Perhaps the government’s solution to the housing deficit is to demolish what little housing exists. Genius!
@dr_nonsky:This is a case of witch hunting against the Igbos for not allegedly voting for the present administration. Take for instance what happened at Alaba int’l market, where shops belonging to mostly Igbos were demolished without any form of compensation. This is wickedness at its peak
@Dr_chazd:You can’t control a self-sufficient man, the best way to subdue him is to cripple his means of livelihood and make him dependent on you.
