Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has shared his thoughts on the swearing-in and resumption of Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officiated the swearing-in ceremony, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In response to Wike’s statements upon assuming office, where he pledged to restore the FCT to its original masterplan and warned about demolishing illegal structures regardless of the owners’ status, Sani took to Twitter to express his views.

Wike is walking in a minefield
Sani acknowledged Wike’s capacity and competence to carry out his responsibilities effectively, yet he also raised concerns about the potential political consequences of Wike’s statements and actions.
He also stated that while Wike possesses the ability to deliver on his role as FCT Minister, there is a possibility that his outspokenness and actions could lead both himself and President Tinubu into political trouble.
Sani likened Wike’s situation to walking in a minefield, implying that his actions and statements need to be carefully managed to avoid unintended consequences.
He wrote:
“The capacity and competence of the new FCT minister to deliver is without doubt. The possibility of getting himself and the President into serious political trouble by his utterances or actions is also without doubt. He will have to learn to walk in a minefield or be blown by it.”
