Chelsea coach Graham Potter finally gets a win against Bournemount after losing three times in a row. The club was struggling at the start of the season so they hired Potter to turn things around.
On his arrival, Chelsea started on a good footing. They won their first three games under his watch and they were playing awesome football.
However, it did not take long for all that to start tumbling down as they began to lose even with their top players on the pitch.
Potter’s role was threatened by the series of defeats.
On the other hand, the new establishment was also hungry to see a glimpse of upward margins to prove the investment was worth it and that as well heaped more pressure on him.
Graham Potter Opens Up on His Football Beliefs Before the Match
Potter said: ‘I want a tactically flexible, attacking, possession-based team. Players that are brave, that aren’t afraid to make mistakes. That can get on the ball and show courage and really try to enjoy their football.
‘If the players are enjoying their football, there’s a chance that the supporters will enjoy it as well. That’s how you grow and develop as a club.
‘Styles of play don’t make you win games. The challenge is having players believe in it and how it works.
‘In my position you cannot use time as an excuse. You can talk about philosophy, identity, all these nice words, but you have to think in the short term as well. We are in a results game and you have to try and do your best to win.’
Vulnerable Backline
In the match against Bournement where Chelsea won by two goals, they were still very vulnerable in defense, the opponent missed a lot of chances, portraying what’s to come in the next few matches.
Can Chelsea compete for the top four?
This question will be answered at the end of the season. For now, it remains unclear if Potter will grab this lifeline and build on it.
