A striking picture of dead chickens on a farm surfaced on the internet on Friday that sparked emotive reactions on social media.
In the photo that was also shared by a Facebook user Nsikak Effiong with the caption, “I wonder what went wrong and how the owner is handling this” – an array of chickens lie dead on a neatly designed farm.
While the origin of the picture has not been identified, IkejaBird gathered that many people have claimed that the photo was taken last year after a farm owner from Nigeria was affected by the great flood.
Some had said it maybe the ravaging flu or simply a contaminated feed.
How Social Media Users Reacted to the Photo
Stephanie Chinemerem: “People are mixing and selling trash as feed. This feed seller in my area. I saw them mixing things to the feed. So they can sell more because feed is now expensive. Also it might be flu. Poultry owner should be sure of their feed plug o because I know wetin I use eye see.”
Obinna Gerald also reacted: “Flu!!You don’t want to know. My boss then, this happen to one part of his farm. He came back and slaughter the remaining and we ate chicken for one year plus consistently. Ps, this was one man farm at rivers I think. It was during the flood last year, no way to supply food or get clean water. Govt later, compensated him.”
Raymond Bassey wrote: “Something like this happen years back in the compound where I used to live. Our landlord’s son had a poultry farm. Where the poultry farm was located happened to be a water logged area.
So one night, there was a heavy rainfall. According to him, the chicks alone was more than two thousand in number. The matured ones was up to one thousand in number.
“And he was planning to sell them during the Xmas period. By the time he woke up in the morning, everything was gone,” he said.
