Germany donates over 8, 000 Covid-19 protective equipment to Nigerian Law enforcement agencies

The German Government, through the German Federal Police donated over 8, 000 Covid-19 protective equipment to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Ministry of Aviation (Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA) and Port Health Authority.

The official handover ceremony which took place at the premises of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Lagos, was done by the Acting Head of Mission to Nigeria, Dr. von Münchow-Pohl.

According to von Munchow-pohl, the protective equipment was donated to commend the resilience of frontline workers in the areas of aviation security, migration and to underline the continuous offer for support, assistance and cooperation between the German Federal Police and law enforcement agencies in Nigeria.

“we have an ongoing cooperation between the German police and security agencies which decided to incorporate for related mattes in Nigeria but there is a regular links between my country and Nigeria. In the frame work of this relationship, since we are still in COVID-19 pandemic, security of all the agents who operate at the airport and receive passengers is of high importance that they remain protected,”

“we know it is the first gate of entry and also for the virus. So, our liaison officers have been able to mobilise additional funds to obtain protective equipment for our Nigerian partner agencies at the airport,” he said

The protective equipment includes 1008 Hand sanitisers, 350 disposable COVID coverall, 1008 sanitizing spray, 8400 facemasks, 140 hand held digital infra-red temperature reader, 3, 500 Latex gloves and 140 first aid box.

The donation is a part of the German Police “Training and Equipment Aid Programme” which is set up to provide support for the Nigerian security agencies in the areas of trainings and provision of equipment, as it concerns aviation security and migration. In 2020, the first batch of Covid-19 protective equipment was donated to the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Ministry of Aviation.

The Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Zone A, Mrs. Oluremi Ajoke Talabi, Deputy Airport Chief of Security (DACos), Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Mr. Oni Adedamola, Assistant General Manager, Mr. Oluwole Oludare, Mrs. Asaolu Kemi Port Health Authority, representing the Director Dr. Abdulahi Lawal received the equipment on behalf of the agencies.
