Funke Akindele deletes politics-related posts from social media after election loss

Ace actress, movie producer and deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded guber election in Lagos state, Funke Akindele, has deleted all politics-related posts from her Instagram account.

A check by Ikeja Bird shows that all the pictures and videos of her political engagement, including those of her campaign, have been taken down from her page on the photo and video-sharing platform.

This is coming barely six hours after her party and its flagbearer were defeated by the incumbent governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Monday, March 20.

In an election marked by voter suppression, ethnic discrimination, political thuggery, and violent attacks on voters, electoral staff and security personnel, Governor Sanwo-Olu polled a total of 762,134 votes.

He defeated Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) who scored 312,329 votes, followed by Abdul-Azeez Adediran aka Jandor with 62,449 votes.

Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner at 1:15 am on Monday morning, almost 48 hours after the electoral exercise commenced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
