To say that Mohbad’s death is controversial would be an epic understatement.
The 27-year-old artiste unexpectedly passed away last week Tuesday and was hurriedly buried in Ikorodu the next day. However, the cause of his demise still remains shrouded in mystery.
Amidst this confusing miasma of claims, some verified and others not, Ikejabird brings you the facts about the singer’s death that have been proven.
Facts about Mohbad’s death
He died on September 12, 2023
Mohbad, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Aloba, passed away under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection for treatment. He was 27 years old.

He left behind a baby boy
Mohbad was married to a previously unidentified lady known as Wunmi, with whom he had a baby boy named Liam. Liam was five months old at the time of his death.
He was hurriedly buried without fanfare
Mohbad died last Tuesday after reportedly receiving injections for an ear infection and was buried in Ikorodu, Lagos the following day. The sudden burial raised suspicions among many due to the fact that the singer was not a Muslim.
However, in a recent interview, the late singer’s father Joseph Aloba gave Yoruba culture as the reason for the quick burial. He explained that it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are still alive.
He struggled till death
According to Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, the singer struggled till death as he was always scared for his life and for his family. She added that his worry doubled after the birth of their now five-month-old baby, Liam.

She also claimed the late artiste was called a junkie so the public could have another perception of him.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding his death
Mohbad’s death has spawned a lot of controversies as it was alleged that he was bullied. Among those accused are his estranged record label lead, Afeez Fashola, aka Naira Marly, and a music promoter, Samson Balogun, popular as Sam Larry.
In a video circulating online, Mohbad was seen being assaulted by some people allegedly led by Sam Larry. In the video, Mohbad and Zlatan Ibile, another Afrobeats artiste, were on the set of a music video when Sam Larry stormed the scene with some boys targeting the late singer who was heard talking. The video left many Nigerians on social media furious as they stormed Larry’s Instagram page to attack him for bullying and threatening the late singer.
Amid the controversies, the Elegushi Royal Family of Eti-Osa, Lagos State, distanced their family from the embattled Sam Larry.

Other controversies also allege that the singer was killed. There is a video appearing online showing him being forcefully injected with an unknown substance while in NDLEA custody.
His body has been exhumed for an autopsy amidst investigations
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the exhumation of his corpse on Thursday. The force had previously set up a special team of investigators to look into the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.
The police also arrested the nurse who reportedly injected the deceased singer prior to his demise.
He currently ranks as the world’s 58th bestselling artiste
Perhaps the only good news to come out of this tale of woe. A week after his sudden demise, Mohbad achieved a new feat on the Global Digital Artistes Ranking Chart.

Information posted on the chart Global Digital Artistes Ranking Chart on Wednesday, September 20, revealed that the late singer ranked 58 on the chart. He beat the likes of Eminem, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, and several others to achieve the new feat.
