Former Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been cleared of charges of rape and attempted rape.
The 28-year-old had been accused of assaulting a 24-year-old woman at his residence in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire in October 2020.
Additionally, he faced allegations of attempted rape from a 29-year-old woman, who claimed he had also molested her at his home two years prior.
He is cleared of all charges
Former Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy has been acquitted of the rape charges involving a second woman, aged 24, at his home address. The retrial also cleared him of one count of attempted rape during lockdown-busting parties.
Following the expiration of his contract with Manchester City in June and having played his final game for the Premier League champions in August 2021, Mendy is now a free agent without a club.
In a previous court case in January, Mendy had already been cleared of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. Upon hearing the not guilty verdicts, Mendy was emotional and wept.
His lawyers have stated that he will now focus on rebuilding his life, with a potential return to top-flight football on the horizon.
Outside the court, Mendy chose not to comment, except for saying “Alhamdulillah,” an Arabic phrase meaning “Praise be to God.”
Reactions: The ladies should be put behind bars
Netizens can’t stop reacting to the news about his freedom. Here are some of the comments:
@Ezema:For me the big question, what happens to these women who are obviously guilty of wrong accusations? Why do they just get to lose the case and go free after ruining innocent men?
@Anslema:What Will be done to this lady?,if i may ask..
@chioma:This white man tradition is always giving a woman a walk over in everything is totally wrong women re quite evil nd manipulative too. U watch out for dem nd not just give dem a free card 🏃 🏃 🏃
@manda:Fear the justice system, women are just taking advantage of a flawed system. Since his innocence what are the consequences for false accusations from the women?
@tericah:Those women need to be put behind bars to serve as a warning to others to reduce such false accusations. It’s really so disheartening to see people ruin others lives because they feel they can walk free cause they are women..
