The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have released students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, who were previously arrested on suspicion of internet fraud.
Ikejabird reported that in the early hours of Wednesday, November 1, EFCC operatives carried out a surprise raid and arrested 69 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud at two major off-campus hostels in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Nigerians took to social media to express their disappointment and call for the release of the students who were arrested based on “actionable intelligence.”

In a recent statement on Wednesday evening, the Commission confirmed the release of many of the students. Although the exact numbers wasn’t stated.
The statement partly read, “Already, many of the suspects duly profiled by the Command have been released, while profiling of suspects yet un-released will be completed, without further delay.”
According to Channels Television, the release of the students has also been confirmed by John Alao, the NANS Coordinator for South-West.
The new chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has also instructed the EFCC to halt sting operations at night in all Commands.

Meanwhile, Nigerians are expressing their outrage online over the recent arrest of 72 Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) students by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The agency conducted a surprise raid on two major off-campus hostels in Ile-Ife, Osun State, taking the students and their vehicles to the EFCC’s Ibadan office.
OAU’s Students’ Union President, Akinremi Abass, has confirmed the incident, and the student leadership is en route to Ibadan to gather more information.
