32 people have been confirmed to be kidnapped by yet unknown gunmen following an attack on a train station in Edo state.
Ikeja bird recalls that Edo state police command through its public relations officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, said abductors, armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the train station in Igueben local government area and abducted passengers waiting to board to Warri and shot sporadically before the abduction.
Emerging information from the authorities has now revealed that the manager of the station, Godwin Okpe and head of security of the station, simply identified as Ikhayere were among the victims.
Meanwhile, the operatives of the police, army and vigilantes groups have since swung into action to ensure the release of the abductees.
Police said necessary security support has been provided to help the security personnel track down the kidnappers and their victims.
Similarly, Edo commissioner of Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said one of the abducted victims escaped at 8.15 pm, noting that 31 others were still with their captors.
Nehikhare also disclosed that one suspect has been arrested and he is in custody as the investigation continues.
The federal government and Edo government have since condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate, sad and shocking.
The attack came barely a year after over two hundred passengers in a Kaduna Abuja bound train were abducted.
