From a secret lovebird to an alleged killer, this is the story of Miss Chidinma Ojukwu, who claimed in a confession to have killed her secret lover Mr Usifo Micheal Ataga, the chief executive of SuperTv who was murdered in cold blood on June 15, 2021 at a serviced apartment in Lekki phase 1 part of Lagos.

In her confession videotaped earlier, which was submitted to the court by the led investigator Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olusegun Bamidele from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Yaba.

She said Mr. Ataga who was her secret lover checked in to the apartment with which they had wine and dine together and went further to take some illicit drugs together.

She further explained in her confession that the deceased had sex with her but was requesting for more, but when Mr Ataga charged towards her in tune to have more sex, she pushed him, and he hit his head on a glass table, while trying to defend herself she moved towards him with a knife as she stabbed him in the neck, stomach, and rib while she tied his hands with a handkerchief.

Furthermore, she was arrested in possession of the deceased two iPhones and MAC laptops when she ran away from the crime scene.

These were the evidence basis to the trial which started since October 12, 2021 as presided by justice yetunde Adesanya, the case was adjourned on many occasions due to absence of the defendant lawyers until yesterday October 18, 2022.

At the resumption of the court, the case took a new turn as the prime suspect in the case, Miss Ojukwu denied the whole allegations at the Lagos high court.

She explained to the court that she left the service apartment with the deceased still alive, having to get back to see the corpse of the Chief executive.

She was queried about the blood stains, she responded saying it was from her monthly period and that she was too scared that she ran away.

Furthermore, she insisted to the court that she wouldn’t kill anyone and that she has no knowledge of the person who had killed her secret lover.

The puzzling part of this tragedy love turn sour story is how she admitted to killing her secret lover from the stance of her arrest and now taking a U-turn to denied ever killing the CEO 11 months later.

Could it be an interrogation under coercion that produced that evidence? Or another legal upturn towards taking the strings of the law away from the suspect.

Mixed reactions trail this revelation on the social media as many Nigerians described the new confession as a plot to dodge the rot of the law

As many others said, the authorities in charged of the case would have done some forensic examination to find out without relying on suspect confessions only.

However, some berate the slow and ineffectiveness of the judicial system of the country as they described the court process slow and demeaning.

Miss Ojukwu, a 300-level, Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), is standing trial for the alleged offense alongside her sister and third defendant Chioma Egbuchu, and second defendant Adedapo Quadri.

The court has subsequently adjourned the case further until October 20, 2022, for continuation of the trial by the court.
