Don Jazzy donates N6 million to injured Nigerian footballer

Don Jazzy, a Nigerian record producer whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, has generously donated N6 million to support the treatment and surgery of an injured Nigerian football player, Fakiyesi Abisola Anthonia.

Don Jazzy made this contribution after Anthonia reached out on social media seeking financial assistance.

The young athlete, through a statement on social media, also shared her year-long struggle with pain. She explained that her injury occurred on November 23, 2022, during a friendly football match with the FCT coaches at Area 3 pitch in Abuja.

At the time, she was playing for Naija Ratels. Just 20 minutes into the game, she sustained a knee injury while attempting a tackle, which left her in considerable pain. She was stretchered off the field, and her knee immediately swelled.

Initially, it was believed to be a minor injury that required rest. However, after a few days, the pain intensified. An X-ray showed no apparent issues, and she received medication. She thought rest would suffice for her recovery.

During her Christmas break, she returned in January and discovered that the club had demoted her to the junior team in Makurdi while also reducing her salary. Shockingly, they had not provided her with any basic medical care for her knee injury. She attempted to communicate with the club’s chairman, @FcRatels, but received no response.

In August 2023, she left Makurdi and sought another X-ray at Nisa Premier Hospital in Abuja.

An orthopedic specialist recommended an MRI scan. After undergoing the scan at Abuad Hospital in Ado Ekiti, it was revealed that she had torn her ACL (Anterior cruciate ligament) and required immediate surgery to enable her to return to playing football.
