Declare late Chief MKO Abiola president-elect, Accord Party urges Tinubu | Ikejabird.com

President Bola Tinubu has been encouraged by the Accord Party’s Lagos State Chapter to carry out justice on June 12 by appointing late Chief MKO Abiola as the next president.

This information may be found in a statement made by Mr. Dele Oladeji, the party’s state chairman, in honor of Nigeria’s Democracy Day.

Oladeji claimed that in order to put an end to a long-running injustice against Nigerians, the party wants Tinubu to formally recognize Chief MKO Abiola as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

Oladeji said that the “June 12 Day” continued to be a stain and turning point in Africa’s and Nigeria’s troubled democratic past.

He said, “We request a release of the official result of June 12, a declaration of late MKO as the president-elect and presentation of insignia of office and necessary compensation to his family.”

The chairman said the petitions will put an end to a long-standing injustice, stressing that “the requests will not be for only late MKO Abiola but for all Nigerians and the world at large, who will feel a huge relief.”

Late Chief MKO Abiola to be remembered

The party added, “It will also restore their faith and hope in the country afresh.

“At this time, June 12 Day should start to be celebratory like Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“Also, it should stop being a day we keep mourning the injustice, loss of lives and property and the democratic rape of the June 12 debacle,” he said.

The party’s plea will support renewed faith in Nigeria’s and Africa’s democratic systems, the chairman emphasized.

He explained that it will greatly mature and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.

“It will build trust, faith and hope in the government of Tinubu and develop and foster rapid growth of the judicial and justice systems and processes in Nigeria.”

Some of us are still alive, ‘we want democracy’

Because some of the current actors are still alive, Oladeji claimed that this was the appropriate time to bring justice to June 12.

“Ex-president Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, who annulled the election, is still alive, as are Prof. Maurice Iwu, the third  Independent National Electoral Commission chairman who conducted the election; Prof. Wole Soyinka and Mr  Dele Momodu.

“Others are Dr. Kayode Fayemi and President Bola Tinubu, who were major actors and prominent agitators in the June 12 debacle.

“Tinubu was not only a victim and active actor but also went on exile with other like-minds, members and leadership of NADECO,” he said.

The chairman congratulated the president on his eventual victory in the February 25 presidential election and stated that the party looked forward to the official announcement of the results of the June 12, 1993 election and the declaration of the winner.

“We wish the President and Nigerians a successful tenure and a prosperous reign.”
