DCP urges policemen to shun unethical practices

The Commandant Police Training School Ikeja, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Musa Yusuf Garuba has urged officers of the Nigeria Police to exhibit high moral standards,adding that anyone errant officer would be seriously sanctioned.

He spoke on Sunday at the Training School in Ikeja, where 175  supernumerary policemen graduated after their advanced training course.

He said: “This is a memorable day. Your promotion was based on merit having satisfied all requirements. This advanced course was to equip you with more knowledge. 

“Your new ranks come with greater  responsibility to yourselves, the police training school in Ikeja and Nigeria at large.It means from now your utterances must be guided by police ethics. You should exhibit high moral standards. Anyone who involved in shady practices after this training will be seriously sanctioned in line with police rules,” he said.

The DCP urged them to go to nearest police stations around  to introduce themselves and to familiarise  with other officers. 

Garuba went on to praise the management of the Training School and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba for their efforts and support.

“I commend the management of Police Training School for their efforts and  the Inspector General of Police for his support/ efforts.

In a chat with IkejaBird, the Commandant highlighted the roles of supernumerary policemen.

He said: “They provide security in companies, government agencies and multinational companies. They are spy policemen/officers, they are not the regular police, they are also used for orderly and escort duties.They fill in the gaps when there is shortage of policemen. They are guided by laws of the Nigeria Police.”
