Crowd flood NIMC office, Alausa as telcos begins enforcement of Fed Govt directives to bar outgoing calls not linked to NIN

Many telecommunication subscribers were left frustrated after telecommunications began enforcement of the Federal Government directives to block outgoing calls on all unlinked lines on Wednesday.

Heavy traffic on telecom networks slowed down the process of linking their National Identification Number and Subscriber Identity Module.

The move was made to ensure that the SIM-NIN policy of the federal government was followed, as Nigerians who had not linked their SIMs and NINs together were barred from making calls by the Federal Government via telecom companies.

After the deadline for the SIM-NIN verification exercise expired on March 31, IkejaBird had reported on Monday that the Federal Government directed telecom companies to block outgoing calls on all unlinked lines.

IkejaBird reporter, Onyinyechi Ugwoke observed on a visit to the NIMC office, Alausa on Thursday, that large crowds had gathered as a result of the Federal government directives.Blessing, one of those gathered said, she was at Alausa for NIN enrollment.

“I am just coming from Ikeja local government, they said there is no network. People are just sitting there waiting for network”

Mr. Isaac said, he was at Ikeja local government yesterday for NIN validation but was directed to come to Alausa to do it. “If I had known they don’t do it there, I would have come straight to this place yesterday, the crowd here is large; and most people are here today because of the environmental sanitation”

Mrs Damilola said: “I came for NIN data correction and I have been attended to. I came in since 5:30a.m. The crowd inside is larger than the crowd outside. I just have to go back to MTN office to show them that it has been corrected. They made a mistake with my sex, instead of Female, they wrote Male”

People gathered at NIMC, Alausa were there for NIN enrollment, validation, data correction or collection.

  1. Nigerians like to do things at the last minute. So after almost a year of reminder, we still have this crowd queuing at NIMC office

  2. You can always trust the Nigerian Government to be incompetent. My phone number is barred, even though I linked it with NIN, long ago.
