Following the ongoing killings in Jos North, Plateau State, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Caroline Mbu, has announced that corps members who wished to relocate from the state for safety reasons are free to apply for relocation.
This came after over 300 corps members signed a petition for relocation due to the killings in the state.
Over 40 residents were murdered this week as Lagos State evacuates indigents students from University of Jos.
In a statement released by Caroline this afternoon, the NYSC is a humane Scheme which places the security, welfare and wellbeing of corps members above all else adding that the Scheme is very much aware of the security challenges in the country.
“While we are not resting on our oars in ensuring that the security of corps members is given high priority, we have made it abundantly clear that corps members who wish to relocate are free to do so.”
She said: “relocation is however an administrative process which requires all desiring corps members to apply. It is the right of corps members to apply for relocation. The applications submitted are being treated with despatch. In fact, in the face of the prevailing situation, a lot of the formalities are being waived”
“For the avoidance of doubt, corps members who wish to relocate from Plateau State are encouraged to apply. We assure you that your applications will be treated speedily.
Meanwhile, we urge our corps members to remain law abiding, security conscious and reach out to NYSC and Security officials nearest to them, in the event of any security threat.
However, corps members in the state who spoke to IkejaBird this afternoon have confirmed that since the attack began, they have not been attacks on corps members but are bewildered with fear of the unknown.
