A group within the Labour Party (LP) is unhappy with their chosen presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi. They are threatening to suspend him unless he addresses accusations about using his late brother’s academic credentials.
This faction, led by Lamidi Apapa, has given Peter Obi 48 hours to clarify the concerns about his educational history. They want Obi to explain if he pretended to be his deceased elder brother.
The faction’s spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, strongly criticized Tanko Yinusa, the spokesperson for Peter Obi’s presidential campaign team, for dismissing the allegations as untrue.

Questions that Obi needs to answer
Arabambi is demanding answers to several questions:
- What was the name of Peter Obi’s supposed elder brother who studied computer science?
- When did Peter Obi’s elder brother pass away?
- What names were on his brother’s secondary school and University of Nigeria Nsukka certificates?
- What kind of business was his brother involved in?
- Where is Peter Obi’s birth certificate, and what name is on it?
- Why do the names on his birth certificate, school certificate, and UNN certificate differ?
- Which university did Peter Obi attend for his mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and why is the name on his NYSC certificate different from his UNN certificate?

Arabambi believes Peter Obi should have provided clear answers to these questions to resolve the discrepancies in his academic records and prove his true identity. Instead, Obi’s response, in their opinion, has been unconvincing, leaving doubts about whether he’s using his dead brother’s name and credentials.
The faction insists that Peter Obi has not provided any evidence to counter the allegations of forgery, impersonation, and inconsistencies in his school certificate, UNN certificate, and NYSC certificate.
Additionally, they question why Peter Obi only submitted his WAEC certificate when it shows that he did not meet the minimum requirements for admission into a Nigerian university, as he did not obtain passing grades in mathematics and English.
The Labour Party wants Peter Obi to explain why he used different names in various schools and public documents in a suspicious and fraudulent manner, rather than resorting to blackmail and emotional arguments.
They have issued an ultimatum: if Peter Obi fails to answer these questions within the next 48 hours, they will suspend him from the Labour Party.
