The apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has finally extended the deadline for the exchange of old naira notes across the country.
The decision to extend the deadline was announced by the CBN in a statement on Sunday, January 29.
The new deadline has been fixed to February 10 to allow people exchange their old 200, 500, and 1000 notes to the new legal tender.
Ikeja Bird recalls that the apex bank had earlier announced Tuesday, January 31, as the deadline.
But the financial institution had to refix the deadline amid uproar and untold hardship generated by the decision.
Nigerians have been queuing in banks to exchange their notes, making transaction difficult.
Many people especially those living in the local areas have been badly hit the January 31 decision as petty traders, okada man and market women insist on the new notes, inflicting more hardship.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has vowed to arrest CBN governor Godwin Emefiele after failing to appear before the lawmakers.
