The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria, has stated that it will be stepping up enforcement by striking off 100 thousand companies from its register.
The Registrar-General/CEO of the CAC, Alhaji Garba Abubakar, made this announcement at a Training Workshop on Thursday.
Garba stated that the reason for striking off these companies from the register is because they haven’t filed annual returns in the last ten years.

However, he also said that the CAC will give notices to the affected companies before taking any action, as required by section 692 of the CAMA,2020.
He stated that the companies have the right to be relisted on the register if they pay their outstanding debts and receive a court order, as stipulated by the law.
Garba then advised that companies make timely payments of their annual returns to avoid being removed from the register.
REACTIONS: SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS
The decision made by the CAC was not well received by the company owners, who have expressed their grievances about the difficult process of paying their annual returns. Here are some comments:
@Victory Odama: CAC should make the process annual return easy of paying Because going through accredited agent can be burdensome.
@MrBlessedPaPi: Companies without financial support is useless, with this situation in our country you still expecting one to thief and pay for annual return, you guys never give us financial support, what a country, please struck it off nonsense
@Daniel_Brightt: simplifying the payment process and eliminating the need to go through a registered agent before filing returns, the number of transactions will be significantly reduced.
@iamOmowande: Kindly make the annual returns filing easy and smooth just like the registration. Thank you.
@Krysty_Ann: I don’t know why the organisation changed the filing process. It used to be seamless. But now, one has to go through agents, and it’s cumbersome. Help businesses to be complaint. There should be a place on their dashboard where payment can be made.
