In a recent social media post, Kalu Aja, a certified financial education Instructor, emphasized the fact that Nigerians do not use Nigerian-made brands, citing Alex Otti, the Abia state governor, as an example.
He explained that if Innoson motors was established by an Igbo entrepreneur in California and was very successful.
The Abia state governor would have possibly traveled to California for an investor meeting with Innoson.

Innoson cars are cheaper than imported cars
He further explained that the governor would have invited Innoson to return to Nigeria to contribute to local job creation, with the assurance of state support for the company.
But this is not the case, and many netizens felt this was because Innoson motors are more expensive, but he explained that, Innoson motors are cheaper than imported motors, and even their spare parts are available.
According to Kalu, these cars are even used by the road safety corps and NA army in war zone which means they are safe and reliable.
He mentioned that even though some people want the exchange rate to be favourable, at $1 being equal to 2 Naira, they are focusing a lot on the logo of the brand instead of this brand’s potential to help Nigeria’s economy grow a lot.
Reactions: Buy the Nigerian made to grow the Naira
Some Netizens supported his assertion while some didn’t, here are some comments:
@BenNnachor: Alex Otti is wrong on this but if this is any better reason for his action let’s hear him
@IcyChandor: Many many companies and govt ministries that use Innoson haven’t really enjoyed them. They assemble and rebadge, so it’s like buying a mid Chinese brand, but assembled in Nigeria.
@AdegunwaIdowu: Innoson needs to do more in its auto financing. It should expand its banking partnership with more micro banks n comm banks. Secondly, they need to push more low budget vehicles into the mkt like smart cars which cost less than 2m.
@excelentspirit: What happened to buy the Nigerian made to grow the Naira????
@toyinscharles: I think we shld try and know reasons why they didnt patronise innoson first before giving conclusions…
