In the heart of Nigeria, a young lady named Oluwafunmilayo Oni beat 51,840 applicants to win a UK and Ireland scholarship.
Despite the challenges she faced, Olufunmilayo remained steadfast in her commitment to excellence, graduating with a remarkable second-class lower degree.
Her perseverance paid off when she stumbled upon two prestigious scholarships- the United Kingdom’s Chevening Scholarship and the Irish Government Scholarship.
Both scholarships were highly competitive, attracting thousands of applicants from around the globe.
She wrote: “For years, I doubted my ability to bag any scholarship for my Master’s degree because many scholarships granting organizations often stated clearly that they would rather a minimum of 2:1 (second-class upper).”
She recalled that she once applied for a scholarship opportunity and was told that her leadership experience was superb and excellent but she did not meet the academic criteria because of her Bachelor’s degree grade.
