Breaking: Sokoto Tribunal upholds APC candidate Gov Aliyu’s election  

On Saturday, the Sokoto State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal confirmed Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s victory. 

They rejected the petition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar, who were challenging the APC’s win with Ahmed Aliyu in the March 18, 2023, governorship election.

The three-judge panel, led by Justice Haruna Mshelia, ruled that the petitioners couldn’t provide enough evidence to support their claims.

Journalists who arrived at the court as early as 7:00 am on Saturday faced stringent security checks. The court was heavily guarded by security personnel, making it challenging for access to the courtroom. 

Only journalists from state-owned media and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) were permitted into the court chamber, as stated by a DSS personnel addressing the press
