The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have given the Federal Government of Nigeria a new strike notice. 

This comes after the reported attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero and other union leaders in Imo State.

At a press briefing in Abuja today, the labour union leaders presented the FG with a 6-point demand. This includes the immediate removal of the Commissioner of Police and Area Commander in Imo State who are alleged to have been involved in the mistreatment of Comrade Ajaero and workers.

Strike will begin on November 8th 

NLC and TUC said they will embark on a nationwide industrial action from November 8th if their demands are not met. 

It was reported that suspected agents and security operatives had earlier descended on Ajaero and other Labour leaders in Imo. Their vehicles were damaged and valuables like phones and money were taken away.

The unionists had gathered at the NLC State secretariat in Owerri to protest issues like unpaid salaries, pensions and non-compliance with minimum wage laws. 

Next Tuesday, NLC and TUC leaders will meet to decide the next course of action over this disturbing incident. 

The unions remain committed to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring their welfare and safety across the country.

How NLC President was abducted, assaulted by Imo State police

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero was allegedly assaulted and abducted by the Imo State Police.

Ajaero had recently traveled to Imo State for the NLC’s protest and strike to advocate for workers’ salary continuity.

Unfortunately, during the protest, thugs attacked the workers, causing injuries and property damage. Ajaero was abducted by the Imo State Police to an unknown destination, where he was assaulted further.
